NVTA Unveils On-Demand Shuttle App

NAPA —The Napa Valley Transportation Authority is proud to introduce Ride the Vine, a ride-hailing app for on-demand Vine Transit shuttle transportation in American Canyon, Yountville, St. Helena and Calistoga.

Residents and visitors can use the free app to request a ride and track the status of the shuttle. A "honk" push notification alerts riders when the shuttle arrives. It’s like other ride sharing apps, only more affordable, with more leg room, and with a professional driver at the wheel.

“The Ride the Vine app is a real game-changer for getting around the Napa Valley communities where Vine shuttles operate,” NVTA Executive Director Kate Miller said. “Using their smartphones, riders can take advantage of safe, reliable and affordable transportation to get where they’d like to go.”

Anita Cartagena, Executive Chef and Owner of Protéa in Yountville, predicted locals and tourists alike will enjoy using the app. Cartagena uses the Yountville trolley regularly to get home from work.

“This app makes it easier,” Cartagena said.

The app was developed by Doublemap, an Indianapolis, Indiana based company that develops transit software, focusing on real-time transportation tracking from a unified location, for municipal transit fleets, universities, corporations, hospitals and airports.

The app is available in Apple and Google Play app stores by searching “Ride the Vine.”

Vine Transit operates shuttles in American Canyon, St. Helena and Calistoga. Fares range from 50 cents for youth, seniors and the disabled, to $1 for adults. The Yountville trolley is free.

Riders can still order a ride on their computer or by calling one of the shuttle dispatch numbers. More information is available at www.ridethevine.com/vine or 707-251-2800.
