Napa Travel Behavior Study Volunteers Needed!

Napa County Transportation and Planning Agency is looking for volunteer surveyors to assist with winery intercept surveys on Friday, October 4th from 10:30 am to 6:00 pm.

Napa County Transportation and Planning Agency (NCTPA) is conducting a “Travel Behavior Study” which is a joint project with Napa County and is the first step in developing a comprehensive  Countywide Transportation Plan.  This study will allow us to better understand the details of how travelers move inside Napa County, including visitors.  Most standard transportation data sources focus on the daily commute travel because this is generally when the system is most congested.  In Napa, with nearly 3 million visitors per year, understanding the movements of visitors within the county is of critical importance to understand traffic patterns and transportation demand.  The study will make use of several different sources of information including basic traffic counts at selected locations, mailed surveys based on the capture of license plate numbers, cell phone tracking data (information about where a sample of vehicles travel within Napa County without identifying the owner/driver) and finally, detailed intercept interviews at selected locations, including 30 wineries throughout the county.

NCTPA is looking for volunteers to assist in the intercept winery surveys.  The survey will take place on Friday, October 4th.  Volunteers will come to NCTPA at 10:30 am for a training and catered lunch before their 4-hour winery assignments  (1-5 pm or 2-6 pm). The survey will involve a surveyor asking winery guests a series of questions that would help inform the survey about guests’ origin/destination, travel mode, and demographics.   Volunteer surveyors will also be entered into a drawing for $100 gift card!  If you are interested please contact Danielle Schmitz at or (707) 259-5968.
