Public Records Request

Instructions for Requesting a Public Record from NVTA

Public records are open to inspection at all times during the office hours of a state or local agency and every person has a right to inspect any public record, except as otherwise provided. Any reasonably segregable portion of a record shall be available for inspection by any person requesting the record after deletion of the portions that are exempted by law.

(California Public Records Act, codified in Government Code Section 7920.000)

You will be notified by mail within ten (10) days:

    • Whether NVTA requires an extension of time (not more than fourteen (14) days) to determine whether it has disclosable records in whole or in part responsive to your request.
    • Whether NVTA has disclosable records in whole or in part that are responsive to your request.
    • The date and time NVTA’ plans to release the public records including the delivery format and an invoice for the cost to prepare records release, if any.
    • Whether NVTA has records responsive to your request, that are exempt from disclosure per GOV 7922.000 and NVTA’s justification for withholding release of these records.

Members of the public may inspect records in person with an NVTA staff member designated to release such records by appointment only. When filling out the public records request form, please indicate whether you would like to receive the forms in person, by email or by mail.  Ultimately, NVTA maintains the discretion on which delivery format best meets the needs of the requester, is most fiscally responsible, and within the best interest of the public.

Enterprise Systems Catalog – Senate Bill 272

In October of 2015, the State of California enacted Senate Bill 272 requiring local agencies to make publicly available a list of enterprise systems used throughout each agency. An enterprise system is defined as a software application that collects, exchanges, and analyzes information that the agency uses or one that serves as an original data source.
